Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for added heat

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine all of the ingredients.
  • Heat the sauce over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it comes to a simmer.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until it has thickened slightly.
  • Taste the sauce and adjust the seasonings to your liking. If you prefer a sweeter sauce, add more brown sugar. If you prefer more heat, add more cayenne pepper.
  • Remove the sauce from the heat and let it cool slightly.
  • Transfer the sauce to a jar or bottle and store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • To thicken the sauce, cook longer, use less water, or add a dash of cornstarch or flour.
  • Thin the sauce: Add extra water, vinegar, or Worcestershire sauce. To maintain flavor, adjust the water level.
  • Adjust spice: Adjust the cayenne to make your sauce spicy.
