Ingredients

  • 4 cups chopped fresh fruit choose your favorite - watermelon, cantaloupe, and pineapple are all great options
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup sugar or more to taste
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice optional

Instructions

  • Start by choosing your fruit. Any fresh, ripe fruit will work, but some popular options include watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, mango, and strawberry.
  • Wash and chop your fruit into small pieces. Remove any seeds, pits, or stems as needed.
  • Add the chopped fruit to a blender along with 4 cups of water. You can adjust the amount of water depending on how thick or thin you want your aguas frescas to be.
  • Blend the fruit and water until the mixture is smooth and well-combined.
  • Pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove any pulp or seeds. Use a spatula to press the mixture through the strainer and extract as much liquid as possible.
  • Add sugar to taste. Start with 1/2 cup and adjust as needed depending on the sweetness of your fruit and your personal preferences.
  • Stir in lime juice if desired. Lime juice adds a little extra zing to your aguas frescas, but it's not necessary if you don't have any on hand.
  • Chill your aguas frescas in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. You can also serve your aguas frescas over ice for an extra refreshing drink.

Notes

  • Bring some ice with you. Aguas Frescas are at their most refreshing when served icy cold, so don't skimp on the ice when preparing them.
