- 1 cup of millet
- 2 cups of water or broth
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Step 2: Saute the Millet
Once the millet is rinsed, it's time to saute it in the instant pot. This step adds extra flavor and helps to toast the millet, giving it a nutty flavor. To saute the millet, turn on the saute function on your instant pot and add a tablespoon of olive oil.
Once the oil is hot, add the rinsed millet and stir to coat it in the oil. Cook the millet for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it starts to turn golden brown.
Step 3: Add Water or Broth
After sauteing the millet, it's time to add the liquid. For this recipe, I recommend using 2 cups of water or broth for every 1 cup of millet. Adding broth instead of water will give the millet even more flavor. Once you've added the liquid, give everything a quick stir to combine.
Step 4: Pressure Cook the Millet
Now it's time to pressure cook the millet. Put the lid on the instant pot, making sure the valve is set to "sealing". Select the "manual" or "pressure cook" setting, and set the timer for 10 minutes.
Once the cooking time is up, allow the pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes before manually releasing any remaining pressure.
Step 5: Fluff and Serve
Finally, it's time to fluff the millet and serve it up. Use a fork to fluff the millet, and season it with salt and pepper to taste. You can serve the millet as a side dish or use it as a base for a grain bowl or salad.
